SUMMARY:Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 8-Week In-Person Therapeutic Program - Wolfville\, NS
DESCRIPTION:An 8-week program for coping with anxiety\, depression\, and emotional distress. In this program\, you will learn to access and cultivate your natural capacity to actively engage in caring for yourself and find greater balance\, ease\, and peace of mind.\nFacilitated by: Jacqueline Milner\, Registered Psychologist/Advanced Certified Mindfulness and MBCT Teacher \nThe MBCT program will teach you specific techniques aimed at reducing anxiety and depression as well as how to cope with emotional distress as it arises. \nIn addition\, the program is aimed at helping you: \n\n*become familiar with the workings of your mind\n*notice the times when you are at risk of getting caught in old habits of mind that re-activate anxious and downward mood spirals\n*explore ways of releasing yourself from those old habits and\, if you choose\, enter a different way of being\n*get in touch with a different way of knowing yourself and the world\n*notice small beauties and pleasures in the world around you instead of living in your head\n*be kind to yourself instead of wishing things were different all the time\, or driving yourself to meet impossible goals\n*find a way so you don’t have to battle with yourself all the time\n*accept yourself as you are\, rather than judging yourself all the time\n\nWhat to expect\nWeek 1: Orientation + Session 1\nAn overview of the program and an introduction to mindfulness practice will be provided.  Before this session\, a mandatory phone interview (10-15 minutes) for those new to the Centre or Facilitator will be arranged to review eligibility and ensure the program will be beneficial for you. The duration of this first session is approximately 3 hours with participation being mandatory for continued participation in the program. \nWeek 2-8: Sessions 2-8\nParticipants will meet as a group with a facilitator(s) once a week for 7 more weeks. Each session is approximately 2.5 hours long and is organized around a theme that is explored through short talks\, experiential exercises\, group inquiry and mindfulness meditation practices. Digital materials to reinforce session themes and support home practice are provided. Commitment to attendance and home practice is an essential component for participation in and effectiveness of the program.  \nDay of Silent Retreat\nIn addition to these sessions\, there will be one full-day mindfulness silent retreat held  between weeks 5 and 7. Although this is not mandatory\, it is highly recommended to attend. \n\n\nIs this program for me?\nThis program is designed for anyone experiencing mild to moderate depression or anxiety\, who has a history of depression and/or those interested in learning a set of strategies designed to help manage mood and promote long-term wellness. This program is also for mental and other health professionals who wish to begin integrating mindfulness’s core skills and principles into their work or as the first step in pursuing further teacher training in MBCT as this group fulfills the prerequisite for becoming a certified MBCT teacher.  Meditation experience is not required. \n\nFee:  $675 (HST and digital materials included).\n* Most private health insurance covers the cost of this program.
