SUMMARY:Free Yoga Series with Kirk Johnson - Wolfville\, NS
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Wolfville every Tuesday evening\, 6:30-7:30PM\, from August 5th – September 9th\, for a gentle and mindful one-hour yoga practice rooted in classical traditions. Our focus will be on grounding breath work (pranayama) and on gentle movement (asana). We will learn some simple mantras and give time for quiet reflection (savasana)\, all facilitated by Kirk Johnson\, a Trauma-Aware Hatha Yoga Instructor. Trauma awareness means recognizing that everyone arrives with different experiences behind them. This approach emphasizes choice with options and space for you to move in a way that feels right for you. It’s important to us that your experience feels safe and beneficial. \nThe location is at Breathe Mindfulness Centre in Wolfville offering a welcoming and beautiful studio space for practice. No experience needed. All levels and backgrounds are welcome. Bring a yoga mat\, water\, and anything you need to feel supported. We have extra yoga mats and lots of blankets\, bolsters\, blocks and cushions for you to use too. If you never tried yoga before\, this might be your chance to see what it is all about. \nThough these classes are offered for free\, there is an option when you book to “Pay What You Want” with 100% of donations going to Open Arms\, a non‑profit organization in Kentville focused on addressing homelessness and supporting vulnerable individuals. The suggested donation is $20\, which is the average cost of a yoga class. You are invited to book and participate without a donation too. Just put “0” in the pay option when it comes up. Book one of the classes\, or all of them as there are multiple dates to choose from through August and September. Please come ten minutes early to class. \nSpace is Limited.\nPre-registration is required. \nKirk has completed his 200-hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) training\nThese free classes are part of Kirk’s practice teaching. \nPlease note:\nThese classes offer a somatic\, mindfulness-based approach to support overall wellbeing. DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, 9:30AM – 12:30PM Beginning September 18\, 2025. \nIncludes a half-day silent retreat\, October 18. \nAn 8-week program that combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance emotional wellbeing. In this program\, you will learn how to be with difficult emotions and moments in your life with kindness\, care and understanding and develop resources to safeguard your own well-being when navigating relationships and life’s challenges.\nFacilitated by: Jacqueline Milner\, Registered Psychologist/Advanced Certified Mindfulness and MSC Teacher \nIn this 8-Week program participants will learn: \n\nmindfulness and self-compassion practice for everyday life\nhow to stop being so hard on yourself\nhow to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism\nhow to handle difficult emotions with greater ease\nhow to transform difficult/challenging relationships\, old and new\nhow to manage caregiver fatigue\nthe theory and empirically supported benefits of self-compassion\n\n\nIs this program for me?\nNo previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is necessary to attend MSC.
