Katrina Crowson / Yoga Teacher
Katrina teaches group yoga classes and private/one-one-one Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) here at Breathe Mindfulness Centre. She is the first TCTSY Facilitator in Atlantic Canada.
TCTrauma-Sensitive Yoga is an empirically validated, adjunct to therapy for those who are experiencing chronic, treatment resistant traumatic stress. TCTSY is Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on a body-based experience.
Katrina is a 500 hour Hatha Yoga trained instructor, as well as a 300 hour TCTSY-F. She trained with David Emerson through the Trauma Centre at the Justice Resource Institute in Massachusetts USA, founded by Bessel van der Kolk- author of The Body Keeps the Score. Dave Emerson and Bessel van der Kolk began a collaboration in 2002 that resulted in coining the term Trauma-Sensitive Yoga. TCTSY has foundations in trauma theory, attachment theory, and neuroscience.
Katrina has been teaching yoga for 15 years, in Halifax and Dartmouth. Over the past decade, she has specialized in offering mixed-level yoga lessons for people in the workforce- focusing her skills on workplace injuries and stress related conditions. She owns and operates Yoga in the Workplace.ca Katrina is also a trained yoga instructor in the tradition of Krishnamacharya, and for the last decade has been studying the Alexander Technique iPAC. Currently, Katrina teaches TCTrauma-Sensitive Yoga in various therapy clinics as an adjunct to therapy.
