Mindful Yoga

‘When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.’ -Peace Pilgrim

The word yoga means ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ and is the integration of the body, mind and spirit. At Breathe Mindfulness Centre, it is our deepest wish that you develop an inner sense of peace among your body, mind and spirit.

Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, and has more recently increased in popularity within Western societies. There is a growing body of research that demonstrates the benefits of yoga as a physical and psychological intervention. In fact, many individuals are recognizing the psychological benefits that yoga brings. It is being used as a means of coping with various mental health issues that are prominent in our society. However, yoga is about more than being able to cope with emotional distress. In our Mindful Yoga classes, we move beyond the physical asana to encourage a sense of self-acceptance, compassion, and empowerment. Please read below for more information on our specific classes.

Take a break from your work or busyness of the day for a midday mindful yoga lesson.  In this class, Katrina invites you to share in a small group practice of classic Hatha Yoga forms.  De-stress with a dynamic lesson, creating movement and rhythm with your breath.  Choose from a number of variations and modifications given to hep you find comfort and support in your practice.  If you feel like you want to be still and rest in a form that you are enjoying, that is okay too.  Take 45 minutes in your day for you, to unhook.

What to expect
Monday Mindful yoga classes are 45 minutes long (12:00pm – 12:45 pm) and all levels are welcome. We provide a safe space that allows for self-awareness and reflection. Verbal assists are sometimes given to the whole group for safety – there is no singling anyone out and no hands-on adjustments.

Our classes are small (about 8 people), ensuring you gain individual attention specific to your needs. Those practicing yoga often report increased mind body awareness, which enables a better ability to cope with stress, anxiety, depression as well as experience an overall sense of inner peace.
